Luther Burger Recipe

The Luther burger is an American burger consisting of a beef patty, bacon and cheese sandwiched between a glazed donut. The bacon is fried until crispy, and the beef patty is grilled, topped with cheese then assembled into a sliced and toasted donut.
Most notable about this burger is the lack of any plant ingredients. Luther burgers do not have tomatoes or lettuce, typically used to break up the greasiness of a burger. Variation typically includes addition of fried onions or fried eggs.
Many dispute the authenticity of a Luther burger when it is not made using donuts from the American donut giant Krispy Kreme, which is preferred due to its light airy texture.
Origin and Significance
The origin of the Luther Burger is disputed. Mulligans bar in Georgia, known for its other extreme culinary creations like the hamdog and deep fried twinkie, claimed the creation of this burger when they ran out of burger buns and improvised by using donuts.
The other story of origin also explains its namesake. It’s thought to be named after bestselling R and B Singer Luther Vandross who is rumored to have created and often enjoyed it.
Despite his massive popularity, Luther burgers are not widely available throughout most on America, popping up occasionally at ballparks or state fairs and having more of a cult following.
