Australian Halal Snack Pack Recipe

Halal Snack Pack, also known as HSP, is a fusion street food that is popular in Australia. The dish is made with layers of meat, fries, cheese, and a variety of sauces and is a nod toward Australia’s multicultural history and way of life.
The dish is popular with both locals and visitors and is Australia’s answer to a kebab.
Origin and Cultural Significance
HSPs have become one of Australia’s most popular street foods despite only gaining popularity in the 2000s. The origins of the dish are debated, however many people consider the dish a symbol of Australia’s multiculturalism, and first started appearing in the Australian market in the 1980s.
Halal Snack Packs are made with Halal meat, lamb, chicken, or beef, and are considered a staple takeaway dish in Australia.
Traditionally served in polystyrene containers, they are extremely popular in party districts with many young people taking a HSP home with them on a night out – but they can be easily recreated at home too.
The dish is also known as a meat box and AB in different regions of Australia and won an award in 2016 for “people’s choice of the year”.
