Bolivian Chuflay Recipe

Chuflay is a traditional brandy-based cocktail enjoyed throughout Bolivia. The drink uses Singani (a Bolivian brandy) with ginger ale and a slice of lemon or lime.
The drink is easy to make and considered to be refreshing, making it a popular drink to enjoy at celebrations and social gatherings.
Origin and Cultural Significance
Chuflay’s key ingredient is Singan, Bolivia’s national spirit, which is made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes. The drink is popular with both locals and visitors to the country and is easily the most popular cocktail in Bolivia.
Served on the rocks, the drink was originally created by British engineers in the country who were said to have run out of gin, and resorted to using Sangani instead.
Mixed with Ginger beer and lime, the recipe has remained the same. The drink was originally called short fly, a traditional term for short cuts, and mispronunciations meant it slowly became known as ‘Chuflay’ over time.
